This A4, 40-page colour booklet documents the story of a remarkable project to restore lapwing to a Hampshire valley. The LIFE Waders for Real initiative, set up by the GWCT, has managed to reverse the downward trend of lapwing and other waders in the Avon Valley.
Central to that success has been the commitment of 40 local land managers working together on a landscape scale to help their lapwing population. It covers the question of what lapwing need to breed, the importance of managing predation, providing chick-rearing habitat and the project’s legacy.
